There have been several incidents reported last week involving strangers approaching students in the vicinity of schools. The Education Directorate is working closely with ACT Policing in relation to the reported incidents. These incidents are a good reminder to us all to help children understand the importance of stranger safety and the need to report any unusual incidents or approaches to staff immediately.
ACT Policing urge anyone who may have witnessed any incidents or have any information that could assist Police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
I will ask teachers to remind students about stranger safety and what to do if they are approached by a stranger. Working together is the best way to help keep children safe and I ask that you please have conversations with your children about moving safely around the community and what to do if they ever feel unsafe – the ParentLink website has some useful tips.
The School and the Education Support Office will continue to work with ACT Policing on this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
