Message for Harrison School community
Monday 3 September 2018 (PM)
Dear parents and carers
As promised, here is the latest information regarding the presence of asbestos-containing material at our school.
I can confirm that all areas of interest within the school have now been fenced off pending the outcomes of further testing. The testing process continued today in these areas.
Identifying the source of the material is a priority for the Education Directorate and it is still working to determine the source of the material, including when it was supplied to the school. The Directorate continues to work with, and take advice from, WorkSafe.
I would like to ask parents and carers to take care when using the car parks and follow the direction of traffic management staff, who have been on site since this afternoon and will continue to assist at drop off and pick up times as required.
In addition, a specialist attended today to review that the school’s evacuation routes are appropriate. The specialist identified minor adjustments to ensure access or egression is not impeded. These will be addressed as a priority.
Myself and other members of my executive team, as well as representatives from the Directorate’s Infrastructure and Capital Works team will be available at drop off and pick up times if you have any questions.
I would like to thank the school community for your understanding and patience while we work through this issue.
