Message for Harrison School community

Thursday 6 September 2018 Dear parents and carers,

The Principal of Mother Teresa School in Harrison, Peter Hughes, has advised his school community in a letter today that they have also registered a positive result to asbestos-containing material at their school.

The material is non-friable asbestos found in one of the garden beds sampled at their school. The Mother Teresa School community has been advised that the affected area will be fenced and the school will operate as normal.

This development does not change the situation at our school and we will continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff at Harrison School.

The Education Directorate and myself will be in close communication with Mother Teresa School to share information that might be relevant to addressing the presence of non-friable asbestos containing material in both sites.

At our school, testing of the sampled material gathered from the garden beds continues and the Education Directorate expects to receive the full test results in coming days. This information will allow us to move forward with developing an appropriate remediation plan, which will be shared with the community.

As you know, I am happy to continue to address your queries. Thanks again for your understanding and patience in this matter. Regards
